Frogs

The hot season is bearing down upon us...

...the frogs are singing every night now...their tune a mesmerizing, undulating tide that expands to inhabit the night air.

At night, with our windows now compulsorily open due to the warming trend, I swear sometimes I think I'll go deaf in the pitch range of those devoted minstrels...deaf or crazy.

I was a bit philosophical in the middle of the night...listening to the frogs. Their chorus so dense. It seemed perfectly uniform after listening for a great deal of time.

But occasionally there are a few who break with the masses and form their own ensemble...their tune sounding random at first but strikingly different, commanding my attention.

The din rises and falls as the frogs inhale and exhale .

The ensemble of the few catches my imagination and I wonder if my voice, within the wall of sound in which we live...if my voice is distinguishable from the noise...is the message I herald discernibly different and attention-grabbing like the ensemble of the few frogs?

O that it would be...
