Pre-pay for your Power...or else...

Just a quick post today...

I wonder if everyday for the next year will be filled with totally new revelations about how to live in The New Place?

Last night, I was snuggled up with the kids reading "Where the Wild Things Are." And just as I read the last word the power went out. We thought it went out all over...but after investigation...we determined that it was only here in our unit.

It was 9 pm and we were alone. I told the kids that it was just like when we go to sleep anyway and that we would just go get into our beds. They weren't buying my pollyanna approach.

Daddy went out on the hunt to determine what could be done. He found a security guard for this community that told him. "I'm sorry, but you only have 10 units of power, you need go buy more power."

"Need go BUY MORE POWER?" - This was not in the manual.

We went on to sleep and had several sweaty junior H family members up in the night...being quite cranky. Everyone was up at 6 am and we waited until we could reasonably call our helper at 8:30 to ask for HELP.

After 6 phone calls...with 3 different people...Daddy set off with Potato and a kindly non-English speaking grandpa down the street to find the power company.

He had with him a card...and when he presented it to the power company she asked "how much power do you want to buy?" She suggested an amount she thought was adequate for our month's stay here in the temporary apartment...Daddy didn't want her to lose face so bought her suggestion...fully aware that he'll be making the walk to "buy more power" before the end of this month.

Last night The Engineer and the Tenderhearted One left us. They headed on to see more wonderful sights. It was a very teary time for all of us. We tried to be brave...but we failed.

We cannot say how much their traveling with us helped us out. Through crazy transporting of 16 suitcases, elevator trauma, communal sweating, laughs and constant confusion...they were invaluable to us.

We had a few laughs at the expense of the Tenderhearted One, one which I must report.

While touring our new digs (the future longer term ones) we were walking with a great group of the local workers and the wind was really blowing...leading the way, Magpie and the Tenderhearted One were our flagships. With the wind came and unfortunate full display of The Tenderhearted One's undergarments...fully viewed by all those along on the walk. Her face turned far more pink than her unmentionables.

All you who plan to visit us here...beware...your embarrassing moments will likely end up on this blog...

I made an entire radio career out of these things...can you blame me?

Oh dear. They must have left a page out of the tour guide book. This pay-as-you-go deal could use some upgrading. Will electricity have to be purchased in the same manner at your new home? Do you purchase kilowatts? Do you use electricity to cook? Is charcoal cooking an option? Of course then you'd need a grill. Peanut butter sounds like it might move to the top of the list of menus.

I'm thinking that 10 lbs. wt. loss may be just a beginning with the sauna effect with no AC.

Thinking of you constantly.
