Only a little opportunity to post today.
The school is moving from their prior location to the new building today so the computer will soon be disconnected and moved too!
Don't know when I'll have access to a computer again...but as I am resolved to journal here as much as possible...you can be assured I'll get back to it soon as I am able!
Magpie and The Bug returned yesterday evening from their big trip to the Mountain. Our local friends here said that they were great tourist attractions wherever they went and they behaved well. We were so thankful to have them home and we slept more soundly with all of us under one roof last night!
The school is still struggling here to recruit a Kindergarten teacher. They had one they thought was "on the way" and then it seems she's backed out at the last minute. This is really important to us as this teacher will be the only "foreign" teacher in the kindergarten and will be a key person for Potato, Brownie and Bub during their time of major language acquisition. Someone who can understand them and that they can fully understand will be a great help...please lift up this need earnestly...
And, any of you out there who would like to join us this year to teach Kindergarten?...you don't have to have a teaching degree, but a college diploma is a must.
Also at The Old Place we still have not sold our home. We believe, of course, that it can happen at any moment...but we're now seriously considering renting for this next year. If you should have any leads on a family who need to rent a home for the next year...please let us know! It will be important, we think, to find someone before this month is up as school will be starting, etc!
One other interesting exchange was had yesterday...
While we were sitting waiting for more furniture for the school to arrive I struck up a conversation with one of the Kindergarten teachers...she said...
"Your skin is so lovely!"
"What? Why would you say that?"
"It is so WHITE!"
I explained to her that at The Old Place people constantly are trying to get a "tan" that we think white skin is, for the most part, undesirable.
She was horrified!
Her asian skin is a lovely golden color and she said "Ugh, I hate this dark skin! I want lovely white skin like the skin on your legs!"
I REALLY had to work hard on my composure.
MY LEGS? The only things whiter than my legs are Dad's legs...and when he wears shorts around here he often says "I'm certain NASA is now tracking this gleaming white flesh from space!"
So apparently our glowing white legs are the rage around here...
Why is it then when we're born with this skin we want to darken it and those born with darker skin want to lighten it?
Can we never be happy with how He made us? Ah...the human condition...
I think I'll bare my legs tonight and wear shorts...
...give the locals a REAL treat!

Is there opportunity for a short term kindergarten teacher, 2-3 months?
Shelly and Austyn
I was at our local pedicure spot and the gal asked me if I spent time in the sun and I beamed, "Oh Yes, I love the sun. Vitamin D is so good for you." She then told me she hates being in the sun and I really took notice of her "light" olive complexion. Now with your story I'm gathering she thinks I'm a freak to want browner skin. So we know that light is in, are hairy pits in or out in your neck of the woods?
